Age is a touchy subject for many, and sometimes, even well-intentioned assumptions can cause one pause. For example, imagine you hang up a photograph of yourself and your infant daughter on your cubicle at work. How would it feel if, upon noticing the picture, a coworker remarked on how adorable your granddaughter is?
A personal story
The above scenario is almost exactly what happened to Dorothy Nichols, who recently underwent four separate aesthetic surgery procedures to help turn back the clock, reports Chicago's WGNTV. She gave birth to her daughter, Jenny, 20 years ago, when she was 44. According to Nichols, she said even back when Jenny was an infant, people would say things like, "Oh, your granddaughter is adorable."
As a substitute teacher, Nichols also faced issues about her age while at work. Anyone who's spent time with children knows they can sometimes ask hurtful questions, even if they're simply asking out of curiosity.
"They'll raise their hand and say, 'Mrs. Nichols, why does your neck wobble?'" the teacher explained in an interview with the media source.
The procedure
Nichols reached out to a cosmetic surgeon in her area to ask for his advice. While she was feeling somewhat humiliated by others' comments on her appearance, she says she was ready to consider surgery because she had done so much for her family, and thought it might be nice to do something for herself for a change.
During a five-hour procedure, Nichols received a face lift, neck lift, and brow lift, and also had work done to improve the appearance of the area around her eyes.
"The artistic aspect is how much to do and how much not to do," the plastic surgeon told to the news outlet. "All of that skin will be coming upward and will be redraped in a natural, feminine way."
The results
Nichols says she's thrilled with her new look, and on a recent trip to the beauty salon with her daughter, she was pleased to be recognized as Jenny's mother, not her grandmother.
“Now when I look in the mirror I feel like it's me and that's the beauty of it. It's me,” explains Dorothy. Her appearance on the outside finally matches how she feels on the inside, and she's not done. In a few months, she will undergo laser skin resurfacing to reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture.
While Nichol's surgeries were focused on her face and head, there are procedures that can reduce the signs of aging on other parts of the body, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Many mothers choose to undergo Mommy Makeover procedures like tummy tuck, liposuction and a breast lift or breast augmentation surgery.

One very important factor that women must keep in mind when choosing to undergo any type of aesthetic surgical procedures is to do their homework- check that the surgeon is board-certified in plastic surgery, has hospital privileges to perform the procedure, and how many procedures of this type has the plastic surgeon performed.
