Include Aldosterone information on your My EmpowHer page
Aldosterone is a steroid hormone produced from cholesterol in the outer region (cortex) of the adrenal glands. Aldosterone causes the kidneys to retain sodium and water. This increases the volume of fluid in the body, and drives blood pressure up when signals from the body indicate that blood pressure is too low. Many drugs, lower blood pressure by blocking the aldosterone receptor. The activity of aldosterone is reduced in Addison's disease and increased in Conn syndrome.
