Is Obesity Wired in Your Brain?

According to the CDC in 2008, obesity is as high as 31.4 percent in some states and is a health care topic of concern. Using the Body Mass Index (BMI), obesity is a score of 30 or over. Besides health issues from excess weight, obese people are also at risk for heart disease, diabetes type 2 and certain types of cancer. The reason behind obesity has been highly questioned, with answers including genetics and environment. However, new research may explain why some people are obese — it is the wiring in the brain.

Drinking Soda and Weight Gain – Does It Matter If It’s Diet Soda?

Many times women come into my office and report drinking a soda quite often during the week. Sometimes it is one soda in the afternoon for a pick-me-up, sometimes it’s several. Either way, soda leads to weight gain…and no, it doesn’t matter if it’s diet.

Pre-Diabetes and Weight Gain

Included in routine screening is a fasting glucose test (otherwise known as your blood sugar). If this number is below 126mg/dl then you do not have diabetes.
