The Most Popular Cosmetic Surgeries for Women and Men

As society is growing and changing, other practices start to change as well. It seems that today, plastic surgery is becoming a more well-known procedure. Stemming from that, cosmetic surgery specifically has become more well-known. There are surgical procedures, and nonsurgical procedures.

In this day and age, cosmetic surgery has increased. According to the Cosmetic Surgery National Data Bank Statistics, Americans spent more than $13.5 million on combined surgical and nonsurgical procedures in 2015. The data also stated that “cosmetic procedures have increased by 39% over the past 5 years.”⁽¹⁾

The Cosmetic Surgery National Data Bank Statistics gave a list of the top five cosmetic surgery procedures in both men and women. Here is a list of the procedures and descriptions of what each of these surgeries are:

Top 5 Cosmetic Procedures for Women

1) Liposuction

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, liposuction “slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits and improving your body contours and proportion.” This can be performed in different areas of your body that store fat such as thighs, upper arms, back and cheeks, to name a few. As for the cost, the national average is $3,176 according to 2015 statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).⁽¹⁾

2) Breast Augmentation

This procedure uses breast implants to increase the size of your breasts or restore breast volume. Breast augmentation can increase fullness of your breasts and improve your figure. The ASAPS estimates the cost is around $3,497 for saline, and $3,964 for surgeon fees only. ⁽¹⁾⁽⁴⁾

3) Tummy Tuck

This is also known as “abdominoplasty.” This surgery flattens your stomach while removing excess fat and tightening your abdominal muscles. The ASAPS estimates the cost for this procedure to be $5,891.⁽¹⁾⁽⁵⁾

4) Breast Lift

This surgery “restores a firmer, perkier, more aesthetically pleasing shape to saggy breasts,” according to the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. A woman may choose breast lift surgery in order to have a youthful looking breast shape, or after pregnancy if her breast shape becomes saggy. She may opt for this surgery after she's experienced an extreme weight loss and wants her breasts lifted. The ASAPS estimates the cost is around $4,634.⁽¹⁾⁽⁷⁾

5) Eyelid Surgery

This surgery “reduces bagginess from lower eyelids and removes excess skin from the upper eyelids.”⁽⁸⁾ It may improve eyesight, reduce bags under the eyes, and remove sagging skin. The ASAPS estimates the cost to be around $3,020. ⁽¹⁾⁽⁸⁾

Top 5 Cosmetic Surgeries for Men

1) Liposuction

This surgery helps remove excess fat from the abdominal area. It is a popular surgery in women and men. The ASAPS estimates the cost is around $3,176.⁽¹⁾

2) Nose Surgery

This is popular in men for similar reasons as to why women want it done. It can enhance the proportions of a man's nose. It can help fix breathing problems, increase confidence,and can create a better profile. The ASAPS estimates the cost is around $4,806.^(1)(9,10)

3) Eyelid Surgery

As you age, your eyelids can become baggy or wrinkled around the area and this surgery can fix that. The ASAPS estimates the cost is around $3,020.⁽¹⁾

4) Male Breast

This surgery is very popular among men. According to the American Board of Cosmetic Surgeons, “This cosmetic surgery procedure removes excess fat and glandular tissue to restore a flatter, firmer and more masculine contour to the chest.” In this article it states that an estimated 50 percent of men in the United States have enlarged male breasts. The ASAPS did not list a cost specific for this procedure on men.⁽¹²⁾

5) Face Lift

This surgery reduces signs of aging in your face by lifting the skin. The ASAPS estimates the cost is around $7,286.⁽¹⁾

According to the Cosmetic Surgery National Data Bank Statistics, 1.2 million procedures were performed on men in 2015. It also states that the number of cosmetic surgeries men have received has increased 325 percent since 1997.⁽¹⁾

Cosmetic surgery is something for both women and men. As we can see, some of the top five surgeries in both men and women are similar, while some are different. It is important to do your research and find the right doctor before undergoing any plastic surgery.
