Dr. Gore:

When patients ask me about the options to whiten their teeth essentially I tell them we have three options – one is the over-the-counter product that you can get it through your favorite pharmacy. Typically that takes, you know, weeks or months to get effective results. The second is where we make trays, bleaching trays that are custom-fitted to the patient’s mouth and we put the gel in the tray and wear that. Typically results, you’ll get that done in about a week.

And then there’s the in-office bleaching where we actually put gel on the teeth and use some type of light source to activate the bleaching solution and over the years, I have been doing this for 27 years, typically when it comes to the options of bleaching I tell patients that the bleaching trays that we put in the mouth are the most consistent and provide the best results.

Typically the reason for doing the in-office bleaching is for that patient who either doesn’t have the time or the compliance factor. They don’t want to remember to put the trays in their mouth on a daily basis or they want instantaneous results so we do it in the office where we can bleach your teeth in an hour or so. Otherwise, the take-home trays have been tried and true and one of most consistent bleaching products we’ve had available to us.

Pretty sure everyone I know wants there teeth to be somewhat whiter (except those select few that were blessed with perfect teeth). Even I have what I consider the best teeth whitening products at my apartment. Gotta love that pearly white smile though ;) Thanks for the advice!
