It is usually pretty asymptomatic, which is one of the challenges in diagnosing and identifying type 2 diabetes. It often occurs at the same time as obesity, high blood pressure, hypertension, high cholesterol…things like that, but the actual elevated blood sugar itself, usually people don’t feel that or notice that, so they don’t know until they have the test done.

Dr. Erica Oberg, who completed her doctorate and residency at Bastyr University in 2003 and holds an MPH degree in Health Services from the University of Washington, combines the latest scientific research with the timeless wisdom of our bodies and spirits.

She is on the Board of Directors of the Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians, chairs the Prevention Expert Committee for the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and is a member of the American Public Health Association, American Heart Association and American Diabetes Association. When not practicing, you can find her in the garden or kayaking in Puget Sound.
