Snack Right

If you are snacking in between meals because you are truly hungry and/or you need the energy, then that is a positive reason to snack. Make healthy choices and watch the calorie intake. If you're snacking because of stress or boredom, then this is a negative reason to snack and should be avoided. Before you choose to snack, think about why you are doing it and if it is truly necessary. Snacking is not bad if it's done for the right reasons.

We value and respect the experiences of all of our HERWriters, but everyone is different. Many of our writers are speaking from personal experience, and what's worked for them may not work for you. Their articles are not a substitute for medical advice although we hope you can gain knowledge from their insight.

I agree! I usually have at least 3 or 4 snacks a day. It prevents me from feeling starved at meal times which leads to overeating. Your portions will be more controlled if you have healthy snacks throughout the day. A few of my favorites include carrots with hummus, frozen grapes, edamame, rice cakes with salsa, avocado with crackers, apples or granola.
