Why Physical Exercise?

Physical exercise is an important factor in any weight loss or weight maintenance plan. Your body converts the nutrients in the food which you eat into energy. A calorie refers to a unit of energy. When associated with food, it is a measure of the potential energy that a particular food has. To lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you consume. One pound of fat equals 3,500 calories. The amount of calories that you can burn is dependent upon your body weight, intensity of the workout, conditioning level and metabolism. Across the board, running burns the most calories. The numbers for running are grossly overstated. Running 1 mile burns closer to 100 calories, not 1,000!
