The “Green Movement” Mom

For the mom who loves the outdoors, let nature be her trainer. Put together a “Fit Backpack” full of fitness trails, treats and treasures. Put a spring into your mom’s step as fitness is in full bloom and pack up the brochure guides to the closest trails. Trade up mom’s treds and give her more action with the latest traction in hiking footwear and maybe even some walking sticks. Cram in a compass so she’ll stay on course and a Camelpack Re-useable Hydration Carrier. Don’t forget to pack mom mucho munchies for her long trek and toss in trail mix and energy bars.

The Gadget and Go – “Techno Mom”

Gear up mom with the latest gadgets to get her going towards her goal. Whether mom likes to bike, run, walk or swim there is something to keep her technically tuned in: Get mom the latest in fitness jewelry with a Garmin Forerunner 405 Watch. This gadget downsizes the GPS technology from your dashboard to your wrist. It can be used with your PC to display routes on a map, heart rate and speed. Check out the iBike iSport which can be used instead of a heartrate monitor to measure how many power meters mom is accelerating. Tune-up the pool and get mom plunging to the beat the Finis SwiMP3. This waterproof digital music player will have mom diving toward success. The Nike + iPod Sport Kit will also have mom synched toward success as the sensor in her shoe communicates with her iPod Nano or iPod Touch. The screen will display for mom her time, pace and calories burned. A motivating voice pushes mom along and vocally cues her when she has a few minutes left in her workout.

The Mind/Body “M-Ooohhhhhhhhhhhhmmmm”

Stay connected with mom, by helping her rebuild that mind/body connection. Get on the mat with mom and give her a gift certificate to a Yoga or Pilates Studio. Roll-up Mother’s Day with a “sticky mat” and Keep mom’s “Chi” in check with a gift certificate for a healing acupuncture treatment. Shower mom with the latest in “cantina couture” giving her an Asian art, adorned, re-useable water bottle.

“The Stay At Home” Workout Mom

For the mom who likes to workout solo in the comfort of her own home, put together a “Fit Kit” to get her moving and motivated. My suggestions for a great way to get started: An exercise ball, a resistance band, 2—5lb. weights, and don’t forget the soundtrack from Mamma Mia to really get mom going!

“The Ladies Who Lunch” Lift first

Uplift mom this mother’s day by getting her a personal trainer or gym membership. Lifting weights will help mom increase her bone density and overall endurance and strength. Moms who grew up in the 50’s in a lot of cases were sheltered from this type of exercise. Why not give Mom a double personal training session so the two of you can workout together. She can learn the basics of weight training while bonding with you. Head out for a healthy lunch after your workout. Mom will possess such a sense of accomplishment, that she’ll be more apt to make healthier food choices.

The “Spa and Splurge” Mom

Pamper mom from pinkie to pedi while giving her the gift of wellness. Some mom’s are reluctant to set aside “me” time. Why not take mom on a spa retreat and spend a weekend taking the latest fitness classes. Recharge and regroup with body treatments to promote recovery and overall body balance. Let mom recreate that experience at home, by giving her a blissful basket complete with body scrubs, lotions and tranquil music.
