Phoenix Mercury player Kara Braxton explains how she separates work and play and how playing sports reinforces responsibility.
Kara Braxton:
Using sports helped me adjust, be an adult in many ways. It helped me being responsible. It helped me with time management. Being with sports isn’t just about you, it’s about a team so you have to think about all that when you come in to the locker room, when you come into the gym, everything. It’s not all about you; it’s just like it’s not at all about you when you have kids.
Let me give you an example of a lesson I learned in youth sports that I still use today. My coach always told me, once you step inside the lines it’s all about basketball. It’s time to get serious; it’s time to focus. Once you are outside the lines do whatever you want, but when you walk into these lines it’s serious. For me it’s the basketball court, for you it could be the office. So whenever I got inside the basketball lines or you in your office, it’s all about business.

I like the tip! I need to focus more on one thing at a time. Thanks!
