Undiagnosed Abdominal Pain

By August 22, 2011 - 9:22am

I've been suffering from recurring abdominal pain for three years. The pain is in my lower abdomen, just left of center. It comes and goes, but is a sharp, horrible pain that usually lasts for about a week. Other symptoms include bad inflammation (feels like intestinal inflammation). The pain is very localized; it feels like something is there in that particular spot, and is very tender when pressed on. The source is yet to be determined. It was incorrectly diagnosed by an incompetent doctor three years ago as a "colon virus," which I found out later does not exist. I saw a dismissive GI Doc who sent me to my Gynecologist. Thinking that the problem was an unresolved cyst on my ovary, my Gynecologist removed one ovary and tube, which didn't fix the problem. I believe that I have now found a good GI Doc, who first did a CT scan (which came back normal) and will soon do a Colonoscopy to try to determine the source of the pain. Anyone else have undiagnosed abdominal pain, or have you had these symptoms and actually been diagnosed with something? It's to the point where I want them to find SOMETHING just to prove I'm not just crazy! Anyone feel this way?

AS REGARDS ABDOMINAL PAIN ON THE LOWER LEFT SIDE AND SEVERE TENDERNESS IN THE AREA.I HAD BLOATING AND TERRIBLE PAIN. 2 YRS AGO. THE DOCTOR SENT ME FOR A COLONOSCOPY AND I HAVE A CONDITION CALLED DIVERTICULAR DISEASE. WHICH ARE "POCKETS" IN THE COLON. USUALLY THE SIGMOID COLON. BUT THEY CAN BE WIDESPREAD.
DIETRY FIBRE IS THE ANSWER, NO MEAT.
ASK YOUR DOCTOR TO SEND YOU FOR A COLONSOCOPY.

Is the pain right under your ribs on the right side? If so it can be your gallbladder, liver, or appendix. I have had trouble with all three included the digestive problems you guys have named. I have a liver disease called Primary Billary Cirrosis. They call it PBC! It is not a real common disease in the US but more and more case keep showing up. Do you get itching spells really bad? That's another sign. Just remember your not alone and if you need to talk I'm here anytime. I had to fight the doctors for years because noone could figure out what was wrong, it made me feel crazy! Like it was in my head! But over time it just kept getting worse. I went from doctor to doctor and one day I found the perfect one. He knew exactly what was wrong but didn't want to scare me ( I was young) so he told my mom what he believed it was and rain blood work it came back positive for PBC so I had to go have a liver biopsy to confirm that it was PBC and what stage I was in. It came back positive too showing I was in the end of stage 1. It's been 6 years and in stage 2 but doing really good over all. At stage 4 I will need a new liver but they have came up with meds that can prolong that for years! Maybe by than they can find a cure for it! Bless you all!

I've been having the same problems for a few months now, and there so far has been no diagnosis for it. The pain is on my right side and random at best. It doesnt matter what I eat, or what activities I do. Sometimes it lasts for days, sometimes just a few hours. I might not get it for days, then it can be every few days and its always associated with light vaginal bleeding after. My gyno ordered an ultrasound after she felt something in the spot, but everything looks healthy. I was diagnosed with a rare condition (uterine arterial vascular malformation) following the birth of my child, and had to have two surgeries to try and fix it. They dont think the two are connected (the pain and the uterine condition), but its starting to drive me nuts with worry.

I have had the same trouble since I was in college. After my last baby (7 yrs ago) it got considerably worse and like you I went to every doctor/specialist out there. I had all the CT/MRI/Ultrasounds/etc and they couldn't seem to find anything but a couple of ovarian cysts that I had taken care of but didn't fix the pain. The last doctor I saw said he thought it was endometriosis but there was nothing they could do about it. Since then it has continued and I am still looking for a doctor who can tell me what is wrong and what they can do about it. Good luck...

I have had the same problem. Mine started when I was 25, had my tubes tied at 27, pain seemed to disappear for about 3 yrs. I am now 36 and it has returned with a vengence. Mine is just right of center, had every test done, countless CAT, MRI and sonograms to no avail. I also had these tests due to migrains. No cysts, no scarring, just nothing. Now sex is becoming very uncomfotable. So if anybody has any answers that would be great

Does your pain occur after you eat something?
Because some of your symptoms sound like mines, I started to notice that everytime I ate something that my body didn't agree with I would get sick that same day or the next day in which the symptoms would last a few days, I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in June this year.
