Women as Caregivers
So many women become the family caregiver by default. My brothers were not in a position to help our mother as her dementia progressed. It wasn't until our family opened a home health care company, Right at Home, did I realize that over 75% of our clients came to us through daughters who shared my experiences. The National Family Caregivers Association recently asked family caregivers to name their top concerns. Respondents expressed concern about taking care of their own health, meeting financial needs, employment conflicts and feelings of isolation—but the very top item they named was "not enough respite care," with more than 80 percent listing this concern. Right at Home’s Michael Juceam provides more information about in-home respite care in the Right at Home blog, but we would like to know how you take care of yourself when caring for a loved one.
