Bulimia bloating

By May 11, 2012 - 10:14pm

Hey all. I am 19 and bulimic for the past 2 months. However I am absolutly fed up, disguisted, and just done with purging. I have been recovering for the past 4 days, and I am extremely bloated in my stomach :/ Is there anything I can do to speed up the process of debloating? And how long it usually takes for the bloating to subside? I would greatly appreciate any comments. Have a wonderful day.

Again, from what I have read, this is a rather unsettling side effect of this addiction/disorder.

However, if you are bloating to such a degree that you believe it's over-and-above this known effect, it's important to call your doctor. Please do so and keep us posted.

Thank you very much I am confident the bloating will subside. However as of two days ago, my whole body has swelled up. My hands, wrists, arms, legs, and my ankles are huge. I dont know what to do. Do you know or if anyone does know what this might be and how long it might take to go away? Thank you very much.

Hi jbatyk

Thank you for your post and congratulations in working hard to get healthy again - it's a huge step.

When you talk about bloating - do you mean you have gas?

Or is your stomach just feeling/looking larger? If that is the case, it may be because you are used to purging everything you ate so your stomach never grew in any way larger due to food. Now that you are not longer vomiting your food up, you likely perceive your stomach as big or bloated when it isn't - it's just holding the food until the digestion process has proceeded more. Right now, your body is not used to a full and complete digestion process. It has to restart.

Since it has only been four days (I mean 'only' in that it takes time to retrain your body), it may take a couple more weeks for this feeling of bloating to stop. Make sure to drink plenty of water and keep eating healthily. Within two weeks, your digestive system should be beginning to run normally again.

I hope this helps and please stay in touch with us!
