Videogames while married

By December 13, 2012 - 2:52pm

I was wondering if any of you girls get mad or upset because your significant other plays video games, me particularly love video games but I have heard many women saying they can not stand them what about you?

My boyfriend and I (we've been together 2 years now) both play video games... he got me hooked on them again after being able to take a multi-year hiatus. We only see each other mostly on weekends because of our work/school schedules and distance, so when one of us gets caught up in playing a game, it can be frustrating for the other person. There's one game I'm knee-deep in, but I can't play it at home because it won't run on my PC (which is a good thing- I'm a doctoral student and have no time for that kind of distraction), so when I'm at his place I will play. The biggest thing I have to remember is that it's a solitary activity and watching another person play for hours on end isn't fun, and I'm there so we can spend time together. That's when you hang up the controller and go watch a movie together:)

Hi sallie

Thanks for starting this Group.

I've heard from many women (usually in their 20s) who are married to gamers who are either addicted to these games or are too immature and selfish to get off the computer and spend time with their spouses. It's mostly men but some women spend a lot of time gaming.

The problem isn't playing video games themselves - everyone needs a hobby and a bit of escapism! It's the amount of time spent and the fact that they ignore other aspects of their lives - even their jobs and marriages - because of these games.

Several countries in Asia are facing a crisis of their teens and people in the 20s who are spending 16-18 hours a day gaming. It's a severe addiction for some.

sallie, have you had any negative effects yourself?
