Alison, I am anxiously awaiting your solution to those issues listed as I have the same situation! My boys are soon to be 3 and 1 and are both every active, engaging and fight for mommy's attention. It is so hard to constantly keep a running tally in my head as to who got my undivided attention last and how I can maintain fairness so neither will ever feel ignored or neglected. As a grad student and part time researcher this adds elements of distraction, stress and remembering what "hat" I have on at the moment. It can be a struggle to go from mommy mode to serious academic throughout the day. I hope this all can be looked at later in my life as a special time of bonding with my babies, gaining valuable time management and negotiation skills, and above all that my children know they are loved and cared for.

My biggest challenges this week seem to be giving enough undivided attention to my almost-4-year-old, while also taking care of the basic needs of my 4-month infant. My oldest son is blossoming with new ideas, creativity...and is talking non-stop! I love it...but I feel like I give him lots of love and patience for a long-period of time, and I look at my watch and it's only been 15 minutes! HA! It's only 9am, and I have another 10 hours with him! How do I engage him fully, making him feel needed and happy, while also getting things done around the house AND take care of a baby?
