Dr. Bowden discusses the dangers related to eating bread, rice and pasta.

Dr. Bowden:
The hidden dangers of breads, pastas and rice and other white grains and starches is not really so hidden.

These things raise our blood sugar almost as quickly and almost as high as eating plain old white sugar right out of the bowl.

There’s a measure of this called the glycemic index and glycemic load, and if you look at white sugar and you look at white bread, they are virtually identical.

We get approximately 300 grams of carbohydrates a day – far too many for anybody trying to maintain weight, and most of it is not coming from vegetables and fruits. It’s coming from exactly the foods I just described.

Processed pastas, processed breads, processed cereals, masquerading as healthy foods but in fact these are very, very high in sugar and even if they are not high in sugar the body, by the time they get down to esophagus and they hit the stomach the body treats them exactly like sugar.

So when you have a high-sugar diet like that or a diet of foods that converts to sugar very quickly your blood sugar goes up, a hormone called insulin starts to get secreted and you are in fat storage mode.

And this is one of the biggest dangers for obesity, diabetes and all these other things.

And it’s why these things respond so well to a lower carb diet, doesn’t have to be drastically low to zero, but when we could bring it down to maybe 100 grams a day instead of 300-400 grams a day, we are doing ourselves an enormous, enormous benefit.

MY SICKLE CELL DAUGHTER NEARLY DIED WHEN POLISHED RICE AND WHITE BREAD FORMED ALMOST 90% OF HER DAILY DIET. BUT WHEN I SWITCHED OVER TO TYPICAL AFRICAN TRADITIONAL FOODS LIKE MILLET, SORGHUM, COWPEAS, GROUNDNUT, LOTS OF LEAFY VEGETABLE SOUPS ETC ETC HER CONDITION SUDDENLY CHANGED FOR THE BETTER AND HER PAINS ALMOST ARE NOW GONE WHILST SHE LOOKS VERY HEALTHY AND PRETTY NOW WITH A GOOD WEIGHT TO MATCH AS SHE NO LONGER LOOKS EMANCIATED LIKE SHE USED TO LOOK. AND SHE DOES NOT HAVE TO DRINK TOO MUCH WATER LIKE PREVIOUSLY AND SHE DOES NOT FEAR THE COLD WEATHER AGAIN. IN SHORT SHE IS NOW LIVING A NORMAL PAIN FREE LIFE.

To save the health of the entire planet there isa desperate, long overdue need to educate the masses about just how danger and toxic processed food is today. Almost everything we eat in the West has been concocted in a Laboratory and not a kitchen. Some of the additives are purely chemical and are 'slow poisons' which inevitably lead almost all of us to end up with a major disease, be it coronary, diabetic etc Lets teach the world how to eat again as we used 100 years ago when there was very little cancer, diabetes etc in the world
