Dr. Bowden:

The problem with processed meats is that they contain a lot of nitrates and a lot of sodium.

And even our regular, factory-farmed meats that are pretty much what we get in the supermarket and you get at fast foods are shot filled with antibiotics and steroids and bovine growth hormone.

So I actually believe, and I think the research is beginning to back me up on this, I actually believe that the problems associated with meat eating are really not about the meat. It’s about what’s in the meat. So, processed meats are the perfect example of that.

A recent study, just out of Harvard, just came out the week that we are taping this, showing that when you looked at meat-eating and disease and you separated the meat into processed and unprocessed, heart disease had no relationship to meat eating.

It had a big relationship to processed meat eating. So I think there’s a big difference between processed meat and, say, the actual opposite of that, which would be happily raised cows on pasture and grass-fed.

Yes! Nice to see more studies showing grass-fed meat healthier. Now if they were available in most local markets at affordable prices to all... healthy eating could become a way of life for more people.
People pressed for time including caregivers often face challenges with healthy eating. http://howtoliveonpurpose.com/body/caregiving/elder-care/part-2-what-can...
