Registered Dietitian Maria Kinirons:

Weight Watchers’® points food system basically takes a food and assigns a points value to it based on its calories, fat, and fiber content, and what we do is we use branded foods and we also use USDA database to fill our database with foods. We contact manufacturers and we have them list our products with us, and we take their calorie, fat, and fiber information and assign a points value to it based on a proprietary formula.
