Rebecca shares how she chooses the heart topics to write about on her blog and describes why she enjoys participating in the EmpowHER community.

Rebecca:
Selecting topics to blog about is a unique experience. Most times it has to be kind of spur the moment things; something I am experiencing in my day-to-day life. A lot of times quite frankly, it’s what I read about on the website, questions women have, answers they are finding, and then perhaps any experience I can add to that, for instance, why angiograms are necessary.

So many women have experienced them and it comes back maybe not getting the results they hope for. Well in my case, microvascular angina is a specialty angiogram that one needs to have, one that includes adenosine. So they are necessary. There’s a reason for them and it’s important that women know what they should expect from these sorts of things.

EmpowHER is fantastic because it’s user-friendly, the topics are easy to select from, and I like the front page especially because you have the community option, you have the experts on the front page as well, but I think probably my most favorite is the community. It’s well broken down to different types of conditions. You can find your friends online. There’s a couple of folks that I communicate regularly with on the website. So it’s a good place to meet friends and to talk about your conditions and share your stories.

EmpowHER has had a tremendous effect on my life. At one point I felt like I was doing this alone until I found this site and now by sharing my story and reading the stories of others I really feel that there’s a connection there that wouldn’t have been there before, and this is people from all over the earth, you know from the UK and from Australia, women who have the exact same conditions and same problems you do that perhaps don’t have a listening eat at home and now have a place to turn in order to get the help that they need.
