I mentioned some drugs earlier that can be used and which seem to be particularly useful in patients with diabetes, but you don’t necessarily have to use those drugs, there are other drugs which work quite well, also. The most important thing is to treat patients to targets, and I see time and time again, people that are not being treated adequately for blood pressure. So that’s an extremely important factor.

Dr. Martin M. LeWinter, M.D., was Director of the Cardiology Unit at the University of Vermont College of Medicine for more than 15 years and is currently the Director of the Heart Failure Program. He is an Associate Editor for the journal Coronary Artery Disease and serves on the Editorial Board of several cardiology journals. He is currently Professor of Medicine at the University of Vermont.
