Managing Cholesterol, Will You Share Some Tips? - Dr. Lyle

Dr. Lyle:

I think the tips in general for cholesterol management is one, to have an understanding of what your cholesterol is. Often times people do not get their cholesterol checked often enough and we have plenty of research that shows that even in adolescence, cholesterol levels are too high and are beginning to show the beginnings of coronary artery disease or the process of atherosclerosis where cholesterol builds up in the arterial wall.

The basic foundation for managing your cholesterol is, as I said, knowing what your problem is, and second comes with basic lifestyle and exercise modifications. This is often something that is overlooked or not paid enough attention to, but it’s the true cornerstone of the treatment of all cholesterol problems whether it is a trouble with your LDL, triglycerides or your good cholesterol.

Brian Lyle, M.D., obtained his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Boston University and graduated from the MCP Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After medical school he completed an internal medicine residency at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. and a cardiology fellowship at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Conn. where he was the chief cardiology fellow.
