Rheumatoid Arthritis: Reishi Mushroom Helps Enhance Immune System

The autoimmune condition rheumatoid arthritis causes inflammation of tissues and organs, and painful, stiff and swollen joints. "A robust immune system capable of adjusting to ever-changing situations is a key factor in preventing the manifestation of a cold or cancer, or anything in between. One important aspect of immune function is its ability to self-regulate downward when needed so that it doesn`t become hyperactive and attack your own tissues, as in the case with Rheumatoid arthritis."

The herb Reishi mushroom is a treatment in traditional Chinese medicine. Also called Ganoderma lucidum, its original habitats are China, Japan and North America. It has been used for thousands of years and is favored for its healing properties.

The herb Reishi mushroom affects certain cells of the immune system, which are the lymphatic cells and interferon alpha and interferon beta cells. Less responsive cells of the immune system are encouraged to step up, whereas hyperactive cells of the immune system will become less so.

Women are three times more likely to have the autoimmune condition rheumatoid arthritis than men. It usually emerges between 40 and 60 years of age.
