Indigestion is NOT the same thing as heartburn, which is a more serious condition.

Sometimes people with indigestion mistakenly think it is a heart attack because of chest pain associated with the condition. Indigestion is usually not a sign of a more serious health problem unless other symptoms, such as weigh loss or trouble swallowing, also occur.

Eating too fast or too much, stress or too much caffeine, alcohol or tobacco use may trigger indigestion. Changing the way you eat and avoiding aspirin or other NSAIDs may help. Antacids may relieve indigestion.

Seek immediate medical help if your symptoms include jaw pain, chest pain, back pain, profuse sweating, anxiety, or a feeling of impending doom. These are possible heart attack symptoms. Call your doctor immediately is your indigestion symptoms change, have a yellowing of the skin, vomit or pass blood. This can be a sign of a more serious condition.
