Dr. Bastuba:
Masturbation and fertility are unlikely to have a great impact unless the couple do not have relations very often. The optimal time to fill the area of the body that stores the sperm in a male, known as the seminal vesicles, is about two to five days and so, if the woman will be ovulating, having her ripe egg come out of the ovary, that if that is the best way for the male to sort of, out with the old and get the new in so that we have fresher sperm when they are going to be making love during ovulation, it might be useful from that standpoint.

I can’t think of any negatives to masturbating unless we get into something that I might refer to as hypermasturbation where it’s a male who is masturbating two to four times a day and so, therefore when they are trying to actually have sexual interlude for the purpose of having a baby that he might be depleted in his sperm storage.
