Ruth:

A lot of people are worried that they might not be able to do it at home because they are not skilled or they are not medically trained.

And we like to assure them that we have a number of people at home. I have two or three people at home that will talk with prospective people that want to go on dialysis or are considering dialysis at home.

It’s also, I think, assuring to know that you have a support person there to call and we do have pre-education classes that are offered by the DaVita Southwest Kidney people that talk about the at-home options and some of the things that they need to look into before they would attempt to do that at home.

Ruth Gray, R.N., H.H.D., is a registered nurse affiliated with Southwest Kidney Dialysis in Tempe, Arizona. Ruth works with DaVita Tempe Dialysis in the home hemodialysis department, training patients to perform at-home dialysis.
