Losing My Voice From Talking to Doctors

Rate This

Today was an extremely long day. I actually never got a chance to take a nap today! My day was completely filled with doctors, visitors, and phone calls. I actually feel like I am starting to loose my voice from talking so much today!

Because of the blog that I posted yesterday, a girlfriend contacted me and forwarded me the contact information of her colleague that specializes in wills, trusts, and Power of Attorney. When I called the contact, she was already informed of my situation and agreed to do all of the paperwork pro-bono. I am meeting with her on Monday to go over some of the information and start filling out some of the paperwork. This is a huge relief and help! I have so much other stuff to worry about and this is the last thing I want to be thinking of.

I went on the blog earlier to read some of the comments and I noticed there was an area for “The Melissa Waller Fan Club”. I knew that there were some people working on doing some online fund raising, but didn’t know the details. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this. I am so blessed to have such caring, giving, and thoughtful people in my life. I am grateful that they have put the time and energy into creating this page and are brainstorming other ways to help do some sort of fund raising.

I really hope that out of all of this horrible stuff I am going through that I can educate people on the “behind the scenes” of lung cancer. I don’t think there are very many young adults that know the facts and even understand what cancer is about and how it touches nearly everyone. I was surprised at how many people I talk to don’t even really know what chemo treatment consists of and other methods of treatment. I was also surprised at the stereotypes and perceptions many people have of those living or who have died from cancer. I know that I have learned SO much in just a few weeks, and I am only skimming a small portion of the information that is available.

It really is unfortunate that there is not more PR regarding lung cancer. Lung cancer is the deadliest of all of the cancers. This is largely because the symptoms are not prevalent until they have spread outside the lung, when the cancer is classified as stage 4.
