Are Women More Likely To Have ACL Injuries? - Dr. Hacker (VIDEO)

October 21, 2009 - 5:36pm 81 reads 0 comments

Dr. Hacker shares if women are more likely than men to experience anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries.

Dr. Hacker:
Yes, this seems to be true. There seems to be as much as an eight-fold higher incidence of ACL injuries in women than there are in men, and the thought is that this may have some relationship to the women’s female cycle, monthly fluctuation in hormones, and that it’s unclear exactly where in the cycle this occurs, but certainly women are at a higher rate of injury with as many as one out of every ten women involved in collegiate athlete, collegiate sports sustaining an ACL tear.
