Atherosclerosis, What Is It And Can It Put A Woman At Risk For Heart Attacks? - Dr. Goldberg (VIDEO)

January 23, 2009 - 4:32pm 321 reads 0 comments

Dr. Goldberg explains what atherosclerosis is and if it can put a woman at risk for a heart attack.

Dr. Goldberg:
Atherosclerosis means the build-up of plaque in the arteries. It could be in the arteries that go to your heart muscle; it could be the arteries that go to your brain; it could be in the arteries that feed your legs. So that means atherosclerosis puts you at risk for a heart attack if it's in the arteries that supply your heart muscle. If it's in the arteries of the neck or the brain, it could increase your risk for stroke, and if it's in your legs it can increase your risk for peripheral artery disease.

If you think of your arteries as a tree with branches that, all the branches are part of the tree, and the tree could get a tree disease that all the branches are at risk so that all your arteries are at risk.
