Dr. Steinmann:
They don’t contribute to the arthritis at all, but it does slow down, a lot of my patients enjoy knitting and sewing and having arthritis at the base of thumb certainly can limit their enjoyment of those activities and that tends to be a problem that brings the patients in. If they can’t do their favorite avocations they will come in wondering why they have pain in their thumb and is there something that we can do for that.
