Deborah Kesten:
Food has a very strong impact on women’s moods and emotions, and our moods and emotions have a big impact on our food and food choices. There’s a real dance going on there, and one of the guidelines I discovered over the centuries, out of the centuries, doing research about food and dining over the centuries, is that food has had a strong impact on our emotions for many, many centuries and we have been aware of that.

And what that means is, when you consume food, it can calm and relax you and if you eat a high-protein food that’s also lean, such as, what’s an example? Fish. You always hear about that being brain food. That might keep you more alert and not necessarily stimulated as caffeine might, but can keep you more alert. Food releases hormones and some food even has estrogen in it, a very female hormone, but men have estrogen also, and it can also have an impact on the way you feel emotionally and physically.

So yes, food has a hugely profound effect on the way you feel, and it’s very often why we have certain cravings because we want to feel a certain way when we eat food such as chocolate chip cookies.
