Dr. Navarro:
The creation was inspired by trying to find a minimally invasive way, a procedure done at the office instead of the ligation and stripping. Between ‘97 and ‘99 at The Vein Treatment Center in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, and here in New York, we did different tests and we developed the procedure.

So in ’99, we applied for a patent for the endovenous laser ablation, which was, we got the patent in 2002, and the procedure became FDA approved in 2002. And since then, tens of thousands of physicians are performing it in the U.S., all around the world, and it has really revolutionized the way in which we treat varicose veins because they either need the vascular surgeon or general surgeon, and you don’t need general anesthesia, and you don’t need to go to the hospital. So, the treatment of varicose veins has become much more, more democratic.
