Dr. Beauchamp:
There are certain circumstances that there are other conditions other than tumors that can mimic bone tumors. So, there are things that can have the appearance of an aggressive bone tumor such as an infection in bone. So the things that cause us problems in trying to decide what’s going on, what is the process that’s causing an abnormality in bone, infection is one of them. It can mimic a bone tumor because sometimes bone tumors are destructive processes. So, that’s one of the issues that we deal with when we are investigating bone tumors and we’re biopsying them, we are always thinking of infection.
