Dr. Dahiya:
In one single word–so far it’s been wonderful. My patients–extremely happy. It’s a life-changing experience for them. Some of them almost take it like, you know, “That’s my birthday,” and they go celebrate it. At the anniversary they, “Hey, you know, this is my anniversary. Look at that one year, where am I? I am 100 pounds lighter or I am 150 pounds lighter.” So I think it’s great.

This wonderful experience sort of started in the year 2000. What led me into bariatric was, to some extent, the technology. Before that we used to do the cases with a big, long incision. Now this is the age of laparoscopy, so I started in year 2000, the first time that we knew that laparoscopically it’s being done. So it’s been nine years, and in nine years I have done a rare open, so to speak, case. All of them are laparoscopically done, and maybe in the whole nine years there’s probably about one-a-year open. Probably close to 1,500 cases that I have done in that nine years. So I think that’s a pretty darn good experience.
