VIDEO: Dr. Engels, How Does A Breast MRI Help With Dense Breast Tissue?

April 1, 2008 - 4:16pm 811 reads comments

Dr. Engels, a Diagnostic Radiologist at Cooper Clinic explains how a breast MRI helps women with dense breast tissue when diagnosed with breast cancer.

Dr. Engels:
So this is another example of the patient with very dense breast tissue who was actually feeling an area that is marked by the circular BB, and as you can see on the mammogram, you just see a bunch of white tissue, and it is hard to see a discrete abnormality. So this patient underwent a breast MRI which is, this is the same breast, that right breast, and all of this white enhancing tissue is what we call it, is abnormal and represents her cancer and the MRI is very helpful delineating how much of her breast is abnormal, and it also is useful to screen the opposite breast at the same time to show that it actually is normal and we do not have to worry about that right now.
