Dr. Raiszadeh:
The newest procedures available for scoliosis are the use of the lateral approach to the spine. That includes being able to go in, if you can imagine a curvature like this in the back, what we are doing with the lateral approach is coming in through the side, and then we can get multiple discs at once. So you can imagine if an approach is here and the curve is there, one can approach multiple discs and straighten up that spine through one side approach a lot easier.
Another way that has been very helpful is to be able to place the screws and rods that we generally have placed previously through large incisions through smaller targeted incisions that allow us to place those screws and rods without disruption of the muscles.
