Dr. Kharazmi:
You know, stimulants are very difficult to treat. Up to this point it was very, very, very few patients who have a stimulant addiction can break that habits. Prometa has provided an opportunity to again address cocaine addiction from a physiologic perspective, to break that cycle of addiction from the level of receptors in your brain so that you don’t feel like you have to use a stimulant.
The analogy is kind of like more common thing that people are used to seeing as smoking addiction, taking a pill thats really, makes you don’t want to smoke anymore. Same thing applies to Prometa. The goals of these treatments enable you not to desire or remember what it feels like to be high. That’s pretty amazing.
Having patients who have been on stimulants, used cocaine and amphetamine for 20 years, who suddenly say, “You know what, I forgot what, how it felt like to be high. I don’t feel like using cocaine, I don’t care to use it anymore”. They don’t remember what it was why they needed it. That’s pretty amazing.
