VIDEO: Dr. LeBlang - Fibroids, Where Are They Located?

May 20, 2009 - 2:58pm 353 reads 0 comments

Dr. LeBlang describes where fibroids are located and if all fibroids are good candidates for Magnetic Resonance (MR) guided Focused Ultrasound.

Dr. LeBlang:
Fibroids can occur in multiple places inside the uterine wall. Some fibroids are subserosal where they are just underneath the uterine lining. Some are intramural where they are located entirely within the uterine muscle. Some are submucosal where they are right underneath the lining of the endometrium, which is the part we bleed off every month.

Other fibroids are entirely intracavitary. They are inside the inner lining of the uterus, and others are pedunculated where they come off like a mushroom off the outer wall of the uterus.

Most of the fibroids are amenable to the MR guided Focused Ultrasound procedure. A few of the pedunculated fibroids are not candidates for the MR guided Focused Ultrasound procedure.
