VIDEO: Dr. LeBlang - Why Do Women With Fibroids Need An MRI?

May 20, 2009 - 1:48pm 180 reads 0 comments

Dr. LeBlang shares why women with uterine fibroids are asked to have an MRI (magnetic resonance image).

Dr. LeBlang:
The MRI scans are the best way we have of looking at anatomy, so not only does it help us identify how many fibroids you have and where they are located to determine what the best treatment option is for you, but many times we identify other pelvic pathologies that may coexist along with fibroids or may be responsible for your symptomatology instead of the fibroids.

So, although ultrasound is a very good screening exam, once pelvic pathology is identified, MRI is the best way we have at looking at the anatomy and characterizing the abnormalities in the pelvis.
