Dr. Matava describes how a woman can find an experienced surgeon to perform her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery.

Dr. Matava:
Well, word-of-mouth is the best way to find any physician for any problem. Short of that, if you are new to an area and you don’t really know anybody in that area, what I would do is recommend calling a local division one or division two college program, call a professional sports athletic trained department, ask who their team physician is, and they will often refer you to someone in the area. And certainly if you don’t, for whatever, jive with the surgeon you meet the first time, get a second opinion.
