Dr. McLucas:
How does a woman know she has fibroids? There is, the simplest way is to follow the advice for, when I see a patient who is 16-years-old, I give her the same advice. 'If there’s a change in your menstrual period from what’s normal for you, come and see me. If you have pain, pain with intercourse, exercise, bowel movements, urination, come and see me. If you have pressure on the bladder, a pressure on the rectum, back pain, come and see me.’

These symptoms may be symptoms of another disease, but they also could be the early symptoms of fibroid tumors. What would be a symptom of a fibroid tumor? Well, it could be heavy bleeding, it could be pain either with exercise, intercourse, bowel movements. It could be pressure. Now these symptoms can be symptoms of other diseases as well, so don’t assume it’s a fibroid, but any of those symptoms should prompt a visit to your health care provider.
