Dr. McLucas:
The two most common symptoms from fibroids are heavy bleeding with the menstrual cycle and pain and sometimes those get mixed together so that you have heavy, painful periods. The fibroids get big enough and you’re going to have pain outside of your menstrual period; just pain, pain, pain. When the uterus gets to be the size of a 12-week pregnancy, about three month size, it’s coming out of the pelvic cavity, and it’s going to be pressing on the bladder, on the bowel, on the back. So women will be complaining of a pain all the time.
