Dr. McLucas:
During pregnancy, a fibroid uterus will grow rapidly, and we spoke earlier about the influence of estrogen in pregnancies, what we would call an estrogen bath. There are just rising levels of estrogen all through the pregnancy. So it’s not uncommon for a woman who might have had a small fibroid that was causing no problems to realize during the pregnancy that she has that fibroid growing rapidly.

Fibroids can be particularly mettlesome in pregnancy. They can cause miscarriage, they can cause early labor, can cause very heavy bleeding. So fibroids can be a real source of problems for a pregnant woman.
