Dr. O'Connor explains when a woman can return to work after knee replacement surgery.

Dr. O'Connor:
Women can go back to work after knee replacement surgery usually six to eight weeks or so after surgery, depending on how they are doing with their therapy, how they are feeling, and depending on what kind of work they are returning to. Obviously, it’s going to be easier to go back to a desk job which isn’t a lot of stress on your knees, as opposed to if you were going back to, say, being a nurse and being involved with lifting patients and a lot of physical activity.

Dr. Mary O'Connor, M.D., was accepted as a resident in orthopedic surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, New York in 1985. She joined the orthopedic surgery staff at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida in 1991, and since 2005 has served as department chair. Dr. O'Connor cares for people with hip and knee arthritis, failed joint replacements, and pelvic tumors.
