Dr. O'Connor explains when a woman will start walking after her knee replacement surgery.

Dr. O'Connor:
You are not going to be off your feet very long after knee replacement surgery because we are going to get you up that day and at least walking the day after or maybe even the afternoon of your surgery if you had your surgery early in the morning. So we get people up and get them moving and get them going because that’s all really important in terms of their rehab and their recovery.

Dr. Mary O'Connor, M.D., was accepted as a resident in orthopedic surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, New York in 1985. She joined the orthopedic surgery staff at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida in 1991, and since 2005 has served as department chair. Dr. O'Connor cares for people with hip and knee arthritis, failed joint replacements, and pelvic tumors.
