VIDEO: Dr. O'Connor - Hip Replacements, Should Women Defer This While They Get Into Better Shape?

Dr. O'Connor explains if women should defer hip replacement surgery until they are in better physical shape.

Dr. O'Connor:
Yes, there is some benefit to deferring surgery while you are working on improving your muscle strength and doing what we would call therapy before surgery. We have to be a little careful though because for some women, they just can’t do that because their hip is so worn out, they have so much pain that they can’t do the exercises.

The other thing we have to be careful about is to make sure that women aren’t delaying too long because if they can’t do the exercises, their muscles are just getting weaker.
