Dr. O'Connor:
Arthritis of the hip is basically caused by a wearing down of the cushion, the cartilage cushion in the hip joint. And that can happen from injury. It can happen from certain kinds of arthritic conditions like rheumatoid arthritis. It can happen if there’s a blood supply problem to the bone. But most of the time it happens because we simply start to get older and our cartilage, our cushion space starts wearing out.
