VIDEO: Dr. Patel - What Are Physicians Looking For On CT Scans When Diagnosing Lung Cancer?

October 14, 2008 - 9:43am 604 reads comments

Dr. Patel explains what a physician is looking for when he/she orders a CT scan to diagnose lung cancer.

Dr. Patel:
So we look for abnormalities on a CT scan. On a CT scan, your lung should be filled with air and free of particles and maybe just some blood vessels. When we see a tumor, it is obscuring the black part of the lung; it's occupying space. We are looking to see if lymph nodes are involved or enlarged, or if there is evidence that the cancer has gone anywhere else.
