Dr. Wang describes how long a woman will remain in bed after having cervical spine fusion surgery.

Dr. Wang:
Oh, you won’t be in bed very long. The old myth of being in bed for a long time after spine surgery is really just a myth. These days we realize the importance of mobilization. Patient with cervical fusion will get up out of bed the day of surgery; they will typically go home the next day and they’ll be actually, they won’t be playing basketball, but they will be actually doing their activities of daily living very early on.

Dr. Jeffrey Wang, M.D., is the Chief of Spine Surgery and Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Neurology at the UCLA School of Medicine. He specializes in all spine disorders in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar area. His research interests include gene therapy for the treatment of spinal disorders, minimally invasive surgery for spinal disorders, bone growth biological proteins, and biomedical engineering of non-invasive spine surgery using high intensity focused ultrasonic waves.
