Dr. Wang:
Well, the important thing for whiplash is to get into rehab and strengthen the muscles. If you look at the statistics, unfortunately, people who sustain a whiplash injury can have symptoms for up to a year or two. And so to prevent that from lasting that long of a period of time, you want to be very aggressive about it because the people that get better without having symptoms lasting for a year or two, typically get better in their first three months.

So you want to be very aggressive; you want to get into physical therapy and try to strengthen the muscles and work through it.

Dr. Jeffrey Wang, M.D., is the Chief of Spine Surgery and Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Neurology at the UCLA School of Medicine. He specializes in all spine disorders in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar area. His research interests include gene therapy for the treatment of spinal disorders, minimally invasive surgery for spinal disorders, bone growth biological proteins, and biomedical engineering of non-invasive spine surgery using high intensity focused ultrasonic waves.
