Katherine Puckett, Ph.D.:
The breath is really central. Working with the breath is central, and we use that so often in mind-body medicine. Even sitting and talking with people in a counseling session, sometimes we might say, “You know, let's just take a few breaths together and then jump into this issue,” or we use it in as we’re teaching Qigong, introductory Qigong which is a practice that incorporates breathing and gentle physical movements.

We use it in our breathing and guided imagery classes to help people learn how to use the mind to help de-stress them, and we actually use it in laughter therapy. During therapeutic laughter we start by focusing on the breath first. It’s really key and really core.
